Former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) party on Friday explained that it will continue to support the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state headed by Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) President Nitish Kumar.
"We want to make it clear that we're going to stay with the NDA. Our leader Jitan Ram Manjhi made it clear that Hindustani Awam Morcha had contested the elections under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar, that we were with him and would remain with him the party was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The declaration comes the day after HAM Chief Jitan Ram Manjhi was elected leader of his four-member legislature. When engaging with the media later, Manjhi urged newly elected Congressmen to enter the NDA on the development of the state.
"The construction plans of Nitish Kumar are not so far from those of the Congress. In comparison, he has stayed away from certain topics that are not in the interest of the administration. So, you can join us in the NDA and contribute to the development of the state,” he said.
The NDA, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is all set for another term in Bihar by passing a majority mark of 122 seats. All NDA partners – BJP, JD(U), Vikassheel Insaan Party, and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) – together secured 125 seats in the 243 electoral districts, according to data reported by the Indian Election Commission.
While the BJP won 74 seats in the Assembly, the JD(U) Chief Minister's Party won 43 seats, the Vikassheel Insaan Party won four seats, and so did the HAM.
