In India, a vaccine rollout could be inevitable, but most of the workers at the country's largest software major TCS in the world prefer to work from home.
During the company's media briefing after its third-quarter earnings, TCS 'Chief Human Resources Officer Milind Lakkad said 3.4 percent of staff are actually operating out of office. TCS has a consolidated headcount of 4,69,261 staff, but this would mean that there are actually a whopping 4.53 lakh workers operating from home.
For its competitors, such as Infosys and Wipro, who also have 98 percent of their staff operating from home, it is a similar story. Asked if this has an effect on productivity, TCS COO N Ganapathy Subramaniam quipped, "I am also working from home and feel I am not doing much so I end up working more. There is no impact on productivity."
