Amit Shah: Assam embarked on a journey of peace and development

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, launching an offensive on opposition groups, said on Saturday that the previous Congress governments were unsuccessful in taking the youth of the northeast back from the path of insurgency.
He asserted that under Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state has embarked on a journey of peace and progress.
"Assam was earlier known for agitations and violence, but Sonowal and Sarma have unified the people of the state and the region with the rest of the country by upholding and promoting heritage and traditions," the home minister said.
At the foundation laying ceremony for a super speciality hospital and 11 law schools, Shah was speaking.
He said that in the northeast, some separatist groups pressured young people to take up arms and the central government assured that these factions would join the mainstream.
There was a time when in these nations, separatists used to sell arms in the hands of young people (Northeast). Nearly all militant organisations have entered the mainstream and youth-launched startups are vying internationally with other startups,” said Shah.
He further emphasised the need for "ideological change". "The only way forward is development." "Development is happening and will continue to happen, but ideological change is also needed and can not only happen through growth," said the home minister.
In the just-concluded Bodoland Territorial Council polls, Shah said the victory of the NDA was like a semifinal before the assembly elections in which a vast majority of winners would emerge.
Shah said that during its six-year tenure, the Modi government kept the northeast region in view. PM Modi has toured the northeastern states thirty times in the last six years. The government is committed to the region's growth. "Every time he visited the region, he brought gifts to spur growth and development for the people of the region," he said.
Farmers agitating against the new agricultural laws were also encouraged to address their problems by discussions.
