While addressing a press conference yesterday on Rafale controversy, Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of Mee Too Movement and came in favor of this campaign. His reply came out after a day when at a press conference he was asked about the allegations on Union Minister MJ Akbar.
He also told reporters MeToo campaign is a "very big issue" but he would comment on that in detail at a press meet later.
The Congress President tweeted “It's about time everyone learns to treat women with respect and dignity. I'm glad the space for those who don't, is closing. The truth needs to be told loud and clear in order to bring about change.”
The Congress and other opposition parties demanded the resignation of Union Minister of External Affairs, MJ Akbar for being a sexual predator for the seven journalist who were junior to them when he was the editor at The Telegraph and The Asian Age.
However, there has been no statement from MJ Akbar who is on a visit to Nigeria and is expected to return in the weekend. But the women ministers like Smriti Irani and Maenka Gandhi came in support of Mee Too Movement.
Smriti Irani stated that women who are speaking up now should be supported and not victimised. Ms Irani however, avoided a specific question on Mr Akbar saying the "gentleman concerned" is the best person to speak about it.
