Motorola has teased the release of its updated Razr flip phone series with a short video posted on social media, accompanied by the tagline, "Flip the Script 06.25.24." The video, showcasing multiple colors of the new Razr, has set the tech community abuzz with anticipation for the June 25 debut in China. The latest models, known as the Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra, are expected to introduce new AI features and boast larger cover screens.
The 2023 Razr series received mixed to positive reviews, with the basic Razr model praised by CNET as the best foldable phone available for $700. The upcoming models are anticipated to maintain similar pricing, with the Razr expected to retail around $700 and the Razr Plus around $1,000.
In addition to the China launch, Smartprix reports a global event will follow, potentially making the new Razr phones available internationally by early July. This timing is critical as it precedes Samsung's expected reveal of the new Galaxy Z Flip ahead of the summer Olympics.
Rumours and leaks, aggregated by Smartprix, suggest the 2024 Razr will feature a 120Hz-refresh-rate pOLED screen and a 3.63-inch cover screen. The Ultra model is expected to have an even larger 4-inch cover screen with a 165Hz refresh rate. Camera improvements include a 50-megapixel main camera for both models, with the Ultra additionally equipped with a 2x telephoto camera and the Razr featuring a 13-megapixel ultra wide lens. Under the hood, the Razr will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300x 5G processor, while the Ultra will utilize a third-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8S processor.
As the tech world awaits the official reveal, the new Razr series promises to bring notable advancements and maintain Motorola’s legacy in the flip-phone market.
