Google Maps and Google Earth are set to offer users a significantly enhanced experience, thanks to new updates powered by artificial intelligence. These upgrades focus on improving visual clarity and expanding coverage, making it easier for users to explore both popular and remote locations worldwide.

One of the most notable updates is the introduction of the "Cloud Score Plus" AI tool, which is designed to remove clouds, cloud shadows, haze, and mist from satellite imagery. By training the AI model on millions of images, Google ensures that while obstructive elements are eliminated, natural weather features such as ice, snow, and mountain shadows remain visible. This results in clearer, more accurate satellite views for users across both Google Maps and Google Earth. The technology makes satellite imagery sharper, enhancing the overall experience for users who rely on these tools for navigation, research, and exploration.

Along with this improvement in visual quality, Google is expanding its Street View coverage. Newer and updated imagery will now be available in 80 countries, including well-traveled destinations like Australia, France, and Japan, as well as less frequently visited regions such as Iceland, South Africa, and Uruguay. For the first time, four countries—Bosnia and Herzegovina, Namibia, Liechtenstein, and Paraguay—will also see the introduction of Street View, giving users a more comprehensive look at diverse landscapes and urban areas.

This expansion is supported by Google’s portable 15-pound camera, introduced two years ago, which can be mounted on any vehicle, making it easier to capture and update imagery on a larger scale. Google plans to continue adding more locations to its Street View platform in the near future.

Additionally, users interested in how landscapes and urban areas have evolved over time will soon have access to a historical imagery feature. This tool allows viewers to explore satellite and aerial images dating back as far as 80 years, offering insights into the Earth's transformation over time. This feature is expected to be available on desktop and mobile versions of Google Maps and Google Earth soon.
