International Hockey Federation chief Narinder Batra has been elected president of the Indian Olympic Association IOA. He succeeds N Ramachandran from Tamil Nadu. Rajeev Mehta was elected unopposed secretary general of the IOA, while Anandeshwar Pandey is the new treasurer.My intention is to see that India should improve its medal tally in every event and work with the sports ministry to ensure better involvement of all the stakeholders,said Batra.My belief is we should think big. We can host the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in the future, even the Olympics, maybe in 2032.Batra also said that relations with Pakistan on sports issues will depend on governments stand and the cross border terrorism.As far as bilateral ties are concerned they may improve but that depends on Pakistans behaviour. Cross border terrorism needs to stop Batra told India Today.Back in November, Batras election as the IOA chief had brightened after the General Bodys interpretation of an article of its constitution, which will allow him to contest for the top job post.The highest decision making body of the IOA, in its special meeting, unanimously decided to allow office bearers and members of the Executive Council elected in 2012 and 2014 to contest for the post of president and secretary general in the December 14 polls.
