The T20 and ODI series between Australia and India is turning out to be thrilling in the true essence of the game. Australia's tour of India 2019, has had two T20 matches both won by Australia. Now, the ODI series is levelled with India winning the Hyderabad ODI by 6 wickets and Nagpur match by 8 runs, whereas Australia won Ranchi match by 32 runs and 4th ODI at Mohali by 4 wickets.
As teams, both Australia and India are formidable side, both are equally passionate and focussed on attaining the top slot of the world Cricket ranking. The Australian side led by Aaron Flinch had to come out the woods recently. The Australian cricket has been plagued with the absence of two stars Steve Smith and David Warner, banned for the ball-tampering case. But the team found salvation in the likes of Ashton Turner, Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Adam Zampa. The surprise discovery for the Indian side was, of course, Ashton Turner, whose 43-ball 84 not out, was a magical spell to behold. Turner's spell-bounding batting won him the 'Man of the match' award for the match.
The 4th ODI at Mohali perhaps will be a match many Indian players and fan would like to forget in a hurry. The Indian side's humongous score of 358 runs was surpassed by the Australian side with 2.1 overs to spare. Shikhar Dhawan's heroic 143 didn't find the desired result on the final score board in the end. To add to the misery, deplorable fielding by the Indian side was an eyesore. But the dew factor has been crucial too. It is said the team management's and captain Virat Kohli's miscalculation regarding the conditions took its toll.
But the wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant is perhaps the only player who got the unenviable roasting from the cricket fans. It started in the 44th over when Pant missed a golden chance to stump to dismiss Turner. He tried to up his game by trying to run out Alex Carey, but it missed and conceded an extra run to Australia. After the debacle, he coaxed the Indian captain to take DRS to counter a decision against Turner, but it turned futile. The crowd grew disconsolate and started chanting, 'Bring Dhoni Back!!' But Shikhar Dhawan defended the young wicketkeeper, as he is young and comparing him to the seasoned keeper Dhoni is unfair. But that did little to wipe out the frustrations of the fans.
With the ICC World Cup just a couple of months away to be held in England, all nations are busy in finding the best combinations. Indian team and management should take every match as trials for the World Cup.
The decider of the current ODI series will be played on 13th March, at Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi. Australians side has already rioted the Indian side 0-2 in the T20 matches. Now in the ODI, Indian side needs to show their A game and avoid the series loss.
