The 21st Commonwealth Games are all set to begin at the Australian city of Gold Coast this afternoon. Carrara Stadium, with a capacity of just over 35,000, will be the centre stage for glamour, theatre and entertainment as the venue for the opening ceremony scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM Indian Time. The Stadium will be playing a central role in the Games, by hosting all the athletic events. The only sports that will be held outside of Gold Coast City will be track cycling and the preliminary rounds of Basketball which will be held in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville, along with Shooting which will be held in neighbouring Belmont. The Opening Ceremony which is expected to showcase Australias diversity and culture will also, at the same time, epitomise the spirit of the Gold Coast and Queensland. India will be represented at the opening ceremony by a contingent of over 200 athletes who will be led by flag-bearer P V Sindhu, the Olympic Silver medallist. Adding to the glitter of the contingent will be the presence of double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, and London Olympic bronze medallists Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal and Gagan Narang.
