A Mumbai based religious group named Raza Academy has organised and appealed people from the community to conduct prayers at their respective residences along with at a few mosques in South Mumbai to protest demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992. The protest is carried out with a message that Babri Masjid will be reconstructed. On December 6, 1992 leaders from BJP along with some Hindu right-wing organisations demolished the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya over the Ram Janmabhoomi issue. Raza Academy had been booked for perpetrating the Azad Maidan riots in Mumbai where large number of people had gathered for a protest against atrocities on Muslims in Myanmar and Assam. The mob turned violent and went on attacking policemen and damaging public property. A penalty was levied on Raza academy for the riots which was around 2 crores which remains unpaid till date.
