Releasing during major festivities is a sure formula to jumpstart a box office collection. Long weekend, palpable fun and frolic times does mean good business for all, even for Bollywood. That's the reason, many Salman Khan- starrer movies find an opening during Id, and expectedly, the movies usually do decent business for the producers. But that win-win formula seems to fall flat this Navratri season for the Salman Khan Film's debacle 'Love Yatri'.
It was no surprise that this project was the launch vehicle for Salman Khan's brother-in-law, Ayush Sharma. Salman is known to have launched many actors like Sonakshi Sinha, Sooraj Pancholi, Pulkit in the Bollywood. Ayush Sharma-starrer ran into trouble for it was called 'Love Ratri', the people objected to its name, as seemed to cash in on Navratri. Khan team changed the title to Yatri, yet the roadblocks to this run-in-the-mill produce were not over.
The movie stars debutants Ayush Sharma and Warina Hussain sadly offer nothing new or interesting as far as story, plot or innovation is concerned. It pounds the old, battered storyline of yesteryears Rich girl-meets-poor boy romance. The families are against the young(mindless) love, whereas the hero ultimately wins his lady love against all odds. The lackluster and disappointing roles to telly veterans like Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor is also hard to accept. The dialogues abruptly jump from Hindi to Gujarati at its own will. The movie certainly is devoid of any passion or purpose.
The setting seems relays heavily on the glitz, glitter, foot tapping and heart thumping energies of Navratri times. The songs and dandiya sequences are attractive but hardly lends any reason to hold together a full-length movie. The lead actors scope to emote and deliver memorable recital of the roles is painfully limited.
The 'Love Yatri's release coincides with Ayushman Khurana-Tabu-Radhika Apte starrer 'AndhaDhun', which clearly has done better in the matter of business and audiences votes. This evidently is the indicating at the audience's interest in plot and story than just outlandish sets and globe tottering setting. Maybe the makers of the movie would have done audiences a favor by putting some thought and ideas in the plot and story than giving the re-run of old formula romance.
