Earthquake tremors measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar and West Bengal on Wednesday, an India Meteorological Department official said.
The earthquake was felt in almost the whole of West Bengal, including Kolkata as well as Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Malda, and Murshidabad. In the state of Bihar, earthquake tremors were felt in Patna as well as parts of Kishanganj, Purnea, and Katihar. Tremors were also felt in Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh.
